Ellen and I both work in libraries, Ellen works full-time in what was once Europe's largest reference library and I work part-time dotting about the countryside to whichever branches need extra staff. Both of us have an unabashed love for public libraries, put us together and we can chat about books, catalogues, and special collections for hours.
Of course a perk of the job is getting to know the stock and finding hidden gems; serendipitously coming across that book you always intended to read or finding that cd you always wanted to hear. This happened recently after hearing The Kinks "Stop Your Sobbing" on the radio I was looking out for copy of the song only for a borrower to return their greatest hits along with the McGarrigle sister's "Dancer with Bruised Knees". I quickly snatched up both. What a lucky day!
