Whilst on our mini-honeymoon we made a visit to the Highland Folk Museum at Newtonmore. Established by Isabel Frances Grant in the 1940s the open air museum was set up to provide an accurate portrayal of daily Highland life. The buildings are all examples of Highland vernacular architecture and include a school, church, working farm and sweetie shop where we purchased some sour plooms. My favourite building was the summer cottage designed to meet all the needs of the intrepid 1950s holidaymaker. Coronation mugs, a glass jelly mould and a candlewick bedspread- what more could you desire?
